He found out how to open the fridge and now knows where the lunchbox snacks are.

Some mail days are better than others

. . .and yesterday's was one of the better ones! I've been looking forward to this camera for awhile now and I'm so excited to get using it. Last night I made myself put away all the laundry so I wouldn't feel guilty spending time playing around with it today. We also got our blog book sent yesterday and had so much fun seeing in print form some of our memories from last year. Makes me a little more motivated to capture more memories this year!






Here is our little guy tuckered out from a morning at Jump 2 It! Look close at the cheesy fingers from sharing Reese's chips {Thanks buddy!} He was so proud of climbing all the big slides and Kindra saw him get to the top and pump his fists in the air and said "I did it!" He had the biggest grins going down the slides and was quite the little air hockey pro for a 2 year old!

Tired and Happy

I just spent Friday and Saturday at the most wonderful Youth Conference with our girls (which I'll journal about later). I got 3 hours sleep and won't even try to find the words to find about how my body felt after sitting in those metal church chairs for who knows how long, but it was so worth it! I've gotten a little spiritual boost and felt inspired to be a better wife and mother and now I'm cuddling with my cute Porter who just said "I love you Mommy" and drifted off to sleep. Life is good.

Snowed In

We were so excited to finally get snow. It actually snowed Christmas day in Atlanta, but we were out of town so my kids felt jipped. We went to bed Sunday night listening to the ice storm begin and hearing the ice hit the house and the ground sounded so neat. The kids loved looking outside first thing and seeing the snow on the ground. They got outside as soon as they could, but because of the ice it was like the snow when you go night skiing. They were so excited to get the sled, I mean rubbermaid container to slide down the driveway! They kept coming in and out all day. Savannah and Cardyn both have misplaced their better gloves so their hands were freezing. Cardyn came in at one point and said the neighbor friends told her she was going to get frost bite with such wimpy gloves. I assured her with my Utah living credentials (Are my kids the only one who believe the neighbor kids over their parents?) I have to give scientific explanations and pull out my degrees to assure them that I know a thing or two. Anyway, we ended up with tired kids from all the cold play! Later in the day we found out school would be cancelled for a second day, so here we go again. The temperatures this week are not getting above 32 so there is a good chance we could be stuck for a few more days. It makes me a little crazy to not be able to get out. We have plenty of food, but there are a couple things that normally you'd run to the store for and the roads are just too bad, and the stores are out of essentials. It will be interesting how fast they get restocked too. Last year after a storm like this the line to get gas was about half a mile long. Today I'm making cookies, and treats to try to keep my little people happy and maybe I'll get them to do worksheets just to break the time up. My cute Grandma Nada called late last night to see if we were ok. Just a little cabin fever, but other than that we are surviving what the news was flashing WINTER STORM 2011!

Perspectives of a 6 year old

Cardyn and Porter were at the bar eating their breakfast this morning and I was enjoying mine ( a grapefruit ). It was a nice quiet morning and Cardyn, who was watching me close said, " It's winter and there is a storm coming which is going to make your lips dry so why are you eating a grapefruit? It's gonna burn your lips!" Thanks Cardyn. In my 37 years I've figured out how to eat grapefruit in the winter without burning my lips.

Tooth Fairy

Cardyn was so excited to finally have another loose tooth. She worked on it every day after confirming it was loose.


This is her in the mirror after school yesterday. You could basically turn the tooth in a circle.

I told her that once you lose those top teeth you start looking a little different. She is not very excited about that. Daddy called her a hill-billy.

Porter wasn't sure what was going on, but he wanted his picture too.

New Year and 37

We started our New Year out in style by visiting our good friends the Boland's in Ellijay. They have a beautiful home in the mountains of Georgia and it was so nice to get away for the weekend. We ate so much and played lots of games and just relaxed. Thanks Jenn and Ryan for your hospitality and good humor in putting up with the Spiers. Unfortunately we stayed up really late the night before New Years Eve, so Richard called it a night at 11:30 and we never even saw midnight. Since having kids, we have been so bad about staying up to ring in the new year, which is a good lead in to this:

Yes. . .those candles = 37 {it's a stretch, I know. we were out and it was Sunday} the cake was homemade carrot and I will not start my healthy eating until it is gone!
